The history of Vallbé

• The beginnings and founding values

  1975-1984

  Vallbé’s journey began in 1975 in Sabadell, when Ramon Vallbé joined a small group of lawyers brought together by Antoni Farrés in the early 1970s. The group was dedicated to defending labour rights during the final years of the Franco regime.

  Although the members of that early group eventually went their separate ways, their work laid the foundations for what would become Vallbé. In 1979, Antoni Farrés was elected the first democratically elected mayor of Sabadell. Other colleagues went on to pursue careers in the judiciary, serving as judges and magistrates, while others continued their careers at different law firms.

  It was Ramon Vallbé who took over the firm and ensured its continuity, eventually establishing it as a leading law firm in Catalonia.

• Consolidating the firm

  1985-1999

  By the mid-1980s, Vallbé began to gain prominence in the field of healthcare legal advice. The firm took a decisive step forward with the start of its professional relationship with Parc Taulí Hospital in Sabadell. This collaboration opened the door to the healthcare sector and led to a close and lasting relationship with the Unió Catalana d’Hospitals, an organisation that brings together the country’s leading health and social care organisations. During these years, Vallbé experienced significant growth and became a leading firm in the healthcare sector.

  During this period of consolidation, and thanks to the continued dedication of its professionals, the firm also expanded its presence in other sectors linked to medium-sized companies and industry. This diversification allowed Vallbé to extend its services into new practice areas, such as civil and commercial law and administrative law, further consolidating its position in the market.

  In 1991, Paco Carretero joined the firm. He would later become a partner and managing partner, giving Vallbé new momentum in its growth.

• Expanding in Barcelona and new horizons

  2000-2009

  The firm’s move to Barcelona, to its office on Passeig de Gràcia, where it remains today, marked the beginning of a decisive new phase of growth for Vallbé. The significant expansion of its client base and the arrival of new professionals, forming a team of around a dozen lawyers, allowed the firm to diversify its services and take on increasingly complex matters.

  During this decade, Vallbé began to play a role in collective bargaining in several strategic sectors. Its established presence in healthcare was joined by the education sector, and the firm progressively expanded into other productive sectors, reinforcing its reputation as a firm committed to its clients’ needs and to professional rigour and high standards.

  In 2006, lawyer Carles Mundó joined the firm. A decade later, he was appointed Minister of Justice of the Government of Catalonia. He is currently one of the firm’s partners.

• A decade of transformation

  2010-2019

  In 2010, after 35 years leading the firm, Ramon Vallbé stepped down from the firm’s leadership and passed the baton to Paco Carretero, who became Vallbé’s managing partner.

  Over the next decade, Vallbé underwent a digital transformation, introducing new tools and processes that helped modernise the firm. This digitalisation was not just a technological change, but also a strategic response to the new demands of the market and the changing needs of companies.

  At the same time, Vallbé continued to expand its range of services, with the arrival of new partners who brought specialised and innovative perspectives. This period strengthened Vallbé’s ability to adapt to changes in different sectors and businesses, while reinforcing its position as a firm providing comprehensive legal advice to private companies and public entities.

• Growing through change

  2020-2024

  The COVID-19 pandemic, declared in 2020, disrupted the world. For Vallbé, with its close ties to the healthcare and social care sectors, which were heavily affected by the emergency, the challenge was immense. The team quickly adapted to remote working to respond to the needs of companies that had to restructure their workforces.

  That exceptional situation accelerated the firm’s transformation in the way it worked, thanks to the implementation of new technology and communication tools. This enabled greater flexibility in relationships with clients and an even more efficient response.

  Today, Vallbé is a well-established firm, reaching its 50th anniversary with a team of nearly thirty lawyers. Thanks to its commitment to providing professional services of excellence, the firm has become a trusted legal partner for many private companies and public sector organisations in key sectors of our social and economic fabric.

• Looking ahead with enthusiasm and purpose

  2025 onwards

  Reaching 50 years is an important milestone. It reflects the legacy built through the efforts and commitment of the many people who have been part of this team over the years. But reaching 50 years also brings a sense of responsibility that we embrace with enthusiasm.

  The coming years will be shaped by revolutionary technological transformations, such as artificial intelligence, as well as global social, economic and environmental challenges. At Vallbé, we see this scenario as an opportunity to continue working alongside our clients with rigour, high standards and commitment, adapting to change and moving forward together.
